Paper bag cord, cotton quilt cuttings, and waxed linen bookbinding thread. I started this piece during a stressful time of uncertainty and upheaval, busy hands a balm for that wild season. Craft truly is medicine, and each little stitch helped me get through and also keep a small record of my worry. The density of the stitches and the slight bite of the waxed thread really makes it hold its shape. That surprised me! Each stitch was tightened down against a bowl my friend left with me when she moved away and the basket still bears the bowl’s form. I wanted the finished piece to look like a glazed ceramic bowl: cotton strips added to a core of paper cord create the white patterned "glaze" and base and rim of "natural" brown bag.
