Tissue gift paper twists into a surprisingly sturdy cord, strong enough for knitting. In this piece, I wanted to see how the apple print on the gift tissue would appear deconstructed, then constructed again. The apples disappear (except where I’ve left one visible in the twisting paper), but the colors don’t—a new variegated “yarn” is born. Because the paper cord has no stretch, the knit remains fairly open and the resulting swatch is soft and springy, occupying the thin space between paper and textile. I would be interested to see what the application could be in the hands of a more skilled knitter.
