White tissue packing paper and handwritten notes to self are spun into slender paper yarn and woven into a dense tactile weave. The handwriting, now more texture than words, disappears into the regularity of the basket weave pattern. I’ve left strands long, markers of my process and an invitation to look more closely and to consider the materials’ origins. Through this work, I bear witness to cycles of extraction, consumption, and waste that dominate the objects around me and offer an offramp through creativity and reconsideration. What if I, as material witnesses to the ongoing harm perpetuated by this cycle, looked to the once-disposable as valuable? Applying old-world skills to now-ubiquitous waste, I start to believe that we already have everything we need for a revolution in how things are made.
