Waxed linen thread and paper cord spun from to-do lists. I love lists, at home, at work, in my creative practice. The last time I worked in an office, I took notes and tracked tasks in a series of notebooks, one of whose pages have become cord for this basket. If you look closely, you can see my handwriting, in the same line weight as the spiral of black bookbinding thread: “Meet with…”, “email…”, “follow up on…”. I made this basket during the pandemic after moving to a new country, truly an exercise in un-checked lists, in prioritization, in stopping and starting, in abandoning lists, and periods of listlessness – nothing to do next, all things equally urgent/not urgent. It felt right to take my lists from an “acceptably productive” time in my life and turn them into a different kind of production entirely.
