The packing paper that makes up this basket safely held our belongings on a ship across the Atlantic. The diving bell shape, initially suggested by the found bamboo rings, is a nod to its journey, and to the underwater feeling of landing in a new country during the pandemic. I flattened, twisted, and braided the paper before coiling the braid around a form (my landlady's flower pot) and stitching it in place with thick waxed cotton thread. This paper will continue to deepen in color through exposure to light.
Kept out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of cats.
